Kiwi was known as Chinese Gooseberry until the early 1960's when it was re-named Kiwi because of its resemblance to the brown fuzzy kiwi bird native to New Zealand.
Kiwi can be tricky to get germinated so patience will be the key. Also, they are dioecious meaning they require both male and female plants to be pollinated by bees to grow fruit. You will know the male and female as they bloom and see the difference in the blooms. You will need one male plant for every female plant.
Kiwis are a hardy perennial once established so if you live in lower growing zones (5-6) be sure to mulch and protect your plants in the fall, especially the first few years.
